How do ACR’s editors help me avoid these pitfalls?
We read your text from two points of view: yours and the readers’:
- We begin by asking you what you want your text to achieve, and we listen to your answers.
- We read your text from your readers’ viewpoints to see where your messages may not come through.
- We remove all stumbling blocks to comprehension, so that your messages jump into focus.
What goes into an edit? It's a combination of getting rid of redundancies, breaking long sentences into shorter ones, adjusting the vocabulary level to the target audience’s needs, eliminating jargon or supplementing specialized vocabulary with clarifying descriptions, adding punctuation that guides comprehension and ensuring that grammar and word usage are correct.
